What About The Leftovers?

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
— Ephesians 2:7

Are you still eating the remnants of Thanksgiving dinner?  If you are, those days are definitely numbered as you either have nothing left, or you find that what is left is not really fit to eat.  Is your thanksgiving spirit the same?  Are you trying to find motivation for today in the blessings or successes of yesterday? Are you attempting to find a fulfilling feast for the challenges of today, but discover that there is little of sustenance on the spiritual food from what’s left?  Thanksgiving was never meant to be a biblical motivation for obedience or spiritual food for the challenges of today.  Thanksgiving is recognition and an upward praise for what God has done as we look back but it is meant for so much more.  Thanksgiving helps us realize that where I am today has been because of God’s blessings in yesterday’s challenges, but it is the gift of God and His Word that should be my focus for the opportunities of today.  You cannot exist on leftovers – the very word reminds us of how temporary it is.  We must continue to find the feast for today by looking to the Giver and not just His gifts. We must have a new feast in front of us that will sustain us for what we face today.  Thanksgiving without Thanks living leaves you trying to feast on leftovers rather than a new feast of God’s provision for today.  Are you satisfied just looking back and trying to feast on the gifts of grace from the past or are you focused on looking forward and feasting on the daily provision of what you have in Christ today – Him and Him alone? Let Him show you the feast He has for you today!
